South Carolina's homeowners market
Coastal homes often carry a separate hurricane or wind deductible, and carriers look closely at roof age and construction on every South Carolina home. When private carriers won't write wind coverage near the coast, the South Carolina Wind and Hail Underwriting Association provides it, and the SC Safe Home program has offered grants for wind mitigation. We also cover condos, rental properties, renters, and high-value homes.
Hurricanes, flooding, and earthquake
Hurricane Hugo (1989) remains one of the state's worst storms, and the 2015 floods damaged homes across Columbia and the Midlands. Charleston also has earthquake history: the 1886 Charleston earthquake was one of the strongest in the eastern U.S. A standard homeowners policy does not cover flood or earthquake, so we quote both separately.
Auto, boat, and business coverage
South Carolina requires auto liability limits of at least $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage, plus uninsured motorist coverage. We round out your protection with auto, boat, and umbrella coverage. For business owners, we also write business insurance, from business owners policies to commercial property, along with contractors insurance and trucking.
